1:1 meeting agenda template

A good 1:1 belongs to the employee first. Both people add topics before the meeting, and what you agree carries over until it's done.

Before the meeting

Both people add topics to a shared agenda. The employee's topics come first.

  • What's on your mind this week?
  • Is anything getting in your way that I can help with?
  • Which commitments from last time are still open?

How things are going

5 minutes.

  • How are you feeling about work right now?
  • What's a win from the last week or two?
  • Is your workload manageable?

Obstacles

10 minutes. Turn each one into an action with an owner and a date.

  • What's slowing you down?
  • What have you already tried?
  • What would help most, and who should do it?

Objectives and priorities

5 to 10 minutes.

  • How are your objectives going, and how confident are you?
  • Is anything we're working on no longer worth doing?
  • What should we focus on until the next 1:1?

Growth

Every few meetings.

  • Which part of your next role would you like to practice?
  • Who could you learn from, or who could you help?
  • Is there feedback you'd like to ask for?

Commitments

The last 2 minutes.

  • What did we agree, who owns it and by when?
  • What will we check at the next 1:1?
